Project Coordinator: Prof. Davide Barater – UniMore

Prof. Davide Barater- was born in Italy on August 13, 1983. He received the Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering in 2009 and the Ph.D. degree in Information Technology in 2014 from the University of Parma Italy. After the Ph.D., He was a research fellow at University of Parma, Italy. He is currently working as Assistant Professor at Department of Engineering Enzo Ferrari, University of Modena and Reggio, Italy. He was the co-coordinator of the European project “ALEA”, XVI clean sky call and coordinator of the H2020 CS2 project RAISE. His research area is focused on power electronics for renewable energy systems and motor drives, wide-bandgap devices applications. He acts as expert evaluator for the European Clean sky 2 programme and He is Associate Editor of the Journal IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications. He is author or coauthor of more than 60 international papers and holds one international patent.

Prof. Giovanni Franceschini – UniMore

Prof. Giovanni Franceschini – was born in Reggio Emilia, Italy, in 1960. He received the Master degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Bologna, Bologna, Italy. From 1990 to 2018, he was with the Department of Information Engineering, University of Parma, Parma, Italy, where he was Full Professor of electric machines and drives, also holding the position of Vice Rector of the University of Parma, and before Head of the Department of Information Engineering. In 2018 he joined the Department of Engineering Enzo Ferrari at the University of Modena and Reggio, Italy, where he is currently Full Professor of electric machines and drives. His research interests include high-performance electric drives and diagnostic techniques for industrial electric system. He is the author of more than 150 technical papers. During his career he was the responsible individual of the University of Parma group of national and international grants.

Dr. Stefano Nuzzo – UniMore

Dr. Stefano Nuzzo – (M’18) received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy, in 2011 and 2014, respectively. He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering in 2018 from the University of Nottingham, Nottingham, U.K, where he is currently working as a Research Fellow within the Power Electronics, Machines and Control (PEMC) Group. Since January 2019, he is also a Research Fellow at the Department of Engineering “Enzo Ferrari” at University of Modena and Reggio, Modena, Italy. His research interests are the analysis, modelling and optimizations of electrical machines, with focus on salient-pole synchronous generators and brushless excitation systems for industrial power generation applications.
He is also involved in a number of diverse projects related to the more electric aircraft initiative and associated fields. Dr. Nuzzo is a Member of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES) and the IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS). He constantly serves the scientific community as a reviewer for several journals and conferences.

Mr. Pier Vai

Mr. Piermaria Vai was born in Italy on September 08th, 1967. He received the MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Brescia, Brescia, Italy, in 2000. After the degree, he has worked as Operation and Manufacturing Senior Consultant for many companies involved in the industrial and automotive sectors. Among these, it is worth mentioning Lamborghini Automobili S.p.a., Piaggio S.r.l., Electrolux Group and Same Deutz-Fahr Group, where he was mainly involved in the reorganization of assembly and production lines. In 2012, he joined S.T.M. Special Machine Tool, Brescia, Italy, where he worked as Management and Budgeting Control Senior Consultant. He then joined Encos Machinery S.r.l., Brescia, Italy, in 2012, where he was the CEO, showing excellent capabilities in managing a number of different projects and people. 

Since 2016, Mr. Vai is the Operation and Technical Manager of CopperING S.r.l., Nuvolera (BS), Italy. Here, he has actively managed diverse complex projects in the field of electrical motor production, also proven by holding a patent on 2D and 3D bending technologies.
